14. God gives you kindness, meekness and temperance so that you can take the gospel to a lost and dying world and persuade them to come to the Bridegroom, the Lord Jesus Christ.

1. In verse 28 you see a priority of importance with tongues being the lease of all the gifts.

2. Now if you’ve ever been in a church where they “speak in tongues” it’s always the most important.

3. Understand that the gifts that we are given by the Holy Spirit are for the purpose of getting the bride.

4. The gifts of the Spirit are not games to play with, but they are tools to work with to persuade the lost.

5. The gifts that God has given this shy pastor before you are used to persuade people every week of their need of a Savior. Why? In order that I may be used to get a bride for the Son.

6. The gifts of the Spirit are aids. They are not the main thing.

7. Now, do we all have the same gifts? No. Do we all have great wisdom? No. Knowledge (IQ)? No.

8. Now back to verse 28, we see that the least important of all the gifts is this gift of tongues.

9. Now what is being done today under the name of “speaking in tongues” is not Biblical.

10. In the Book of Acts the miracle was that every man understood Peter in their native language.

11. But even that gift is gone today, because we don’t need it anymore. We have the completed Word of God. (I Corinthians 13:8-10) All it was in Acts 2 was a tool to get the bride.

12. (Illus.) Rob K. wanted to speak in tongues so they told him just to “baa” like a sheep.

13. (Illus.) Giving a million dollars to someone who dumps it and runs around excited about the bag.

14. The gift of speaking in tongues was only a tool and winning souls was the main thing.

15. That’s what we’re going to do with our Fisherman’s Club, is make the main thing the main thing.

17. It doesn’t matter what your responsibilities are at the church, it is everybody’s responsibility to go out winning souls to Christ. Getting the Bride.

1. The filling of the Spirit is not given so you can tingle all over when you come to church.

2. The filling of the Spirit is to effective enable you to go get the bride.

3. You say, “But, I want to feel something.” Ok, take a knife and put it in an electrical outlet.

4. In verse 18, God is not advising us to be filled with the Spirit, He’s demanding us.

5. Let’s take a poll: How many would think it would be a sin for Bro. Hallett to come to church drunk?

6. But there are two commands here. And I read this to understand that it would be just as bad for Bro. Hallett not to be filled with the Spirit as it would for him to be drunk with wine.

7. We always need to be filled with the Spirit and always need to be close to God, because we are always supposed to be getting a bride for Jesus. We don’t get a break from the task.

8. (Illus.) I’ve come across people who say, “Well I don’t need church to be close to God. I can study the Bible at home.” We know that’s not true. They will fail without the church. But it’s just as untrue for someone to say, “I can be a soul-winner without going to church wide soul winning.” It won’t happen.

1. He gives the Fruits of the Spirit which are a methods course in Soul Winning.

2. He gives the Gifts of the Spirit which are the tools to help in Soul Winning.

3. He gives the Filling of the Spirit which is the fuel for Soul Winning.

You see, we’ve lost sight that the main thing is to win as many people to Christ as we possibly can in this lifetime. Our focus ought to be on Getting a bride for the Lord Jesus Christ.
